Our good friend Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse has passed away. We're all very saddened by the news. We send our love and prayers to his family and friends. Throughout his career, we were witness to his brilliance and influence during sessions at Sound of Music. He inspired us with his honesty and creativity, in the same way he inspired his fans. His contribution to our lives are felt daily and will continue to enlighten us for the rest of our lives. Mark Linkous will be missed. Godspeed Mark, we love you.
Since the holidaze we've seen an upswing in the amount of projects coming through our doors. Some old clients, some new.
Our Otari MTR-90 II: 2 inch 24 track tape machine has been put back into action and is working at peak performance. Already several sessions have been put to tape and sound great! Analog or Digital. The best of both worlds!
John Morand has spent a good portion of 2010 in Belgium working on new Mint material and completing work with Belgian recording artist Anton Wagrave . He also brought back a taste of some of the material he has been working on to mix at our facility, with Belgian indie rock combo Spencer the Rover. And yes, the mixes sound great. On the homefront, John has been putting the final touches on the Souvenirs Young America record. Available now! As well as, starting work with Bay of Pigs, White Laces (ex. Cinemasophia) and blue grass combo Runaway Strings. He found some space and time, to mix the next Dreamscape Project offering.
John Morand and Miguel Urbiztondo are working with local singer/songwriter Matt Campbell on some nice tunes. We'll keep you posted on the outcome as the session has just begun.
Alan Weatherhead has kept us active with New York acts Left Me Bashful and Sons of the Sun (Produced by Mike Brown). We enjoyed a week with Darren Jesse and Co. Hotel Lights. Al completed the North Elementary recordings, and we look forward to hearing the mixes for Nude Photos of Celebrities. George Taylor has released his recording with us. It sounds good! Check it out!
Miguel Urbiztondo and Alan Weatherhead have been working with Farm Vegas, currently being mastered by Brent Lambert at The Kitchen. Look forward to a release in the coming months. Keep your eyes and ears tuned to these catz, they should be playing in a venue near you soon!
Pedro Aida has been saturating our Studio B facility with some of Richmond's newest Rock and Pop combos, The Weather, Relentless, Waiting for Yesterday, and The Lost Souls. Look out for new recordings from Rosyln, Long Arms, Rocket Knife, and Northern Virginia's Solace Sovay.
Bryan Walthall has been hammering away at The Hot Seats recordings and laying down the drums for his band, Bay of Pigs with John Morand. He also has recordings coming soon from Crucial Elements that you want to check out.
Bryan Hoffa has graced us with his talents, which will soon add to his & our catalog of Hackensaw Boys recordings.
Casey Martin paid us a brief visit to remind us of his engineering prowess with Smoke or Fire. He will soon embark on a new recording with his own combo, Landmines. Watch your step!
Peace.
